The Service Response and Student Engagement and Wellbeing Branches seeking to establish a pool of School Psychology Consultants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2021 and up to the end of 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2021, up to the end of 2022.
The Role and our Branch
As a School Psychologist Consultant, you will be part of a team delivering timely, clinically sound advice to School Psychologists and Lead School Psychologists across the state in face-to-face and e-modes of consultation. This role will see you facilitate the quality assurance and improvement of psychological practice in the state, which will require you to work flexibly and cooperatively within a diverse and skilled team and to build strong working relationships by regularly communicating with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Staff working within the Service Planning and Coordination Directorate and Student Engagement & Wellbeing Directorate work as a collaborative integrated team on a range of priorities as they arise. As such, applicants should be flexible, able to work both collaboratively and independently and able to contribute to the work of the Division across a range of areas with a focus on improving outcomes for students.
You will bring your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully instruct and mentor colleagues whilst undertaking high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations with stakeholders. You will work as part of a supportive and collaborative team of school psychologists within the collaborative structures of Statewide Services and effectively contribute to the identification, development, planning and implementation of priorities and the associated documentation. Your flexibility, ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and commitment to contribute to the work of the directorate in a range of areas will be critical to the successful operation of the role.
As a member of the team, you will be working in consultation with the Office of the Chief Psychologist and other school psychologist consultants across the Division to support complex case management and intervention for students in a range of school environments. You will also be responsible for system level outcomes across key projects and contribute to the continual capacity building of the support offered to schools.
Your expertise will inform and contribute to system responses to State and Commonwealth initiatives related to student engagement and wellbeing and facilitate the alignment of policy, resources, and services in mental health and wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, social and emotional learning, health and child safeguarding.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge and experience in providing specialist consultation, evidence-based assessment and interventions that contribute to system-level understandings
- Highly developed skills in applying specialist knowledge and the development and evaluation of contemporary approaches and interventions.
- High-level ability to communicate and clarify complex concepts, provide feedback and critical evaluation of the management of complex and challenging issues.
- High-level strategic leadership skills and ability to build capacity, influence systemic policy and undertake interventions and prevention programs and assist schools to formulate and implement responses to address identified outcomes.
- High-level experience in coordinating specialised support and in providing appropriate professional learning to a variety of audiences.
- High-level oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team and with a range of internal and external clients.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
