Derby District High School (DHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Teacher – Middle and Upper – Years 3-6 for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year.

About the Role
Derby DHS is a dynamic school with a highly motivated staff. The collaborative approach, exciting work environment and the students make it a great place to teach. Staff are passionate about improving standards in Education; particularly in Aboriginal Education. The school is currently part of the Kimberley School’s Project and seeks staff to enact a targeted teaching approach as part of their overall teaching and learning programs.
Suitable applicants will ideally be dedicated and motivated educators who have the ability to provide high quality teaching and learning programs that are as diverse and varied as the needs of our students. Ideally, suitable applicants should be well versed in the Western Australian curriculum for Primary School students and be able to apply the strategies of differentiated instruction, explicit instruction and other evidence-based instruction models. They should also be able to develop and deliver structured engaging courses to students of varying ability levels.
Our School
Derby DHS is situated in the town of Derby at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Derby DHS is located in attractive and well maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of over 660 students, it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal Communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park.
The Location and Community
Derby is 220 km east of Broome by road and is 2463 km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. The town is well supported with a range of government infrastructures. Its location near the King Sound and a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities - but not swimming!

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
