Newdegate Primary School (PS) is looking for an organised, committed team player to support our small school as a Library Officer.
As a Library Officer you will be responsible for maintaining the resources and environment of the school library. You will also be responsible for administering the library systems, ensuring records are up to date and resources are maintained and processed so they are always accessible and available to students and staff.
The successful applicant will ideally be an approachable person who has the capacity to work cooperatively with others to create a welcoming and vibrant library environment for students and families. A love of books and a sound understanding of library systems, processes and stocktakes would be highly desirable.
Newdegate PS is located in the Great Southern agricultural region of Western Australia, approximately 400 km south-east of Perth. We are a small school with enrolments fluctuating from 40 - 45 children. These numbers allow us to currently run three classrooms. Our children benefit from specialised teachers with expertise in the areas of Music, Science, Visual Arts, Languages (Indonesian) and Physical Education. Up to date class resources complement our skilled and professional teachers and include; E Boards in every classroom, Laptops for each child, digital cameras, iPads and a printer in each room.

Our focus is to develop the potential of our students so they can maximise educational opportunities in academic, social, physical and creative skills. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing.
- Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
