Roebourne District High School (DHS) is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive Primary Deputy Principal who is passionate about supporting young people on their learning pathways through school and beyond.
As a member of the leadership team, the Deputy Principal plays a key role in school planning processes including: the analysis of student performance data, development of improvement plans and implementation of evidence based approaches to support student performance. They contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the school self-assessment framework and have the ability to initiate and lead the review of school policies to support the management, engagement and full participation of all students.
Student services is a key aspect of the Primary Deputy’s role. This is underpinned by an ability to form positive, supportive relationships with others. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding and application of trauma-informed practice. They have an ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, agencies and organisations to ensure each student’s needs are identified and supported. The Deputy Principal supports teachers to develop and implement documented plans and has experience working closely and sensitively with families through a case-management approach.

Roebourne DHS caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 12, with approximately 98% of the students being Aboriginal. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
