This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2022.
Fremantle College are seeking a highly motivated and effective Secondary Generalist Teacher to join their team and teach in the Upper School engagement program, Access Up.
The ability to work across the curriculum, creatively develop a program that engages the students and builds their literacy and numeracy skills, builds their attendance at school and focuses on social and work related skills, will be highly regarded. Understanding trauma informed practice and restorative justice principles, as well as maintaining high expectations of our students, is a requirement of this role, therefore experience utilising these practices is advantageous.
The successful applicant will ideally be able to form positive relationships with parents so that they support the outcomes of the program and the college ethos. The position requires a teacher who has presence in the classroom, builds relationships with students with complex needs, and who likes working flexibly and creatively to meet the needs of the most disengaged students (about 20-25) in Year 10 and 11. The teacher will operate with some autonomy yet with support. A Student Services manager and Vocational Education Training (VET) team will assist in managing complex behaviours, social skill development and readiness to ultimately work towards successful work placements, further education and/or School Based Traineeships (SBT) options.
The program currently comprises of completion of a Certificate II in Foundation Skills, Workplace learning, and community access/service; all are able to be developed in accordance with the strengths and experiences of the successful applicant, however it is desirable for the successful applicant to hold a current Cert IV in Training and Assessment.
With an explicit focus on Positive Education (using the Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment and Health (PERMAH) framework), along with our values of Curiosity, Enthusiasm for Learning, Kindness, Perseverance, and Leadership, your work will ensure that the wellbeing of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and additional learning needs, is monitored and supported so that they can learn and engage to the best of their ability. Your positive support of all staff will ensure they have strategies and knowledge of students so that they can provide excellent, inclusive learning environments for their students.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
