Como Secondary College (SC) are seeking a Teacher – Health and Physical Education (HPE) Golf Specialist to start Term 1, 2022.
About the role
This position attracts an allocation of 0.2FTE as the Teacher in Charge of the Approved Specialist Program Golf.
The Teacher in Charge of the Golf Program is responsible for the day to day management of the program and in collaboration with the Administration Team, its strategic development.
Duties include:
- Manage partnerships with Collier Park Golf Course, Golf WA, RPGC, City of South Perth, School Sport WA and the PGA.
- Identifying and building a good coaching structure.
- Creating pathways into golf and other sporting industries.
- Curriculum development for Years 7-12 students enrolled in the program
- Recruitment and selection of students into the program
- Developing and maintaining links with appropriate organisations to enhance and promote the program.
- Developing and maintaining a parent support network.
- Acquisition and maintenance of golf equipment and resources.
- Promotion of the program within WA, Australia and internationally.
- Creating opportunities for students to develop as aspiring golfers and responsible citizens through an emphasis the values of fair play and being a good sport.
The Teacher in Charge, is part of a teaching and learning community that initiates and engages in professional discussions with colleagues to evaluate and improve practice and is line managed by the Head of Learning Area (HOLA) of Health and Physical Education
To be successful in this role, the applicant should display the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to teach/coach Golf. A high level of golfing ability is also desirable. This course requires the delivery of Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) vocational competencies and as such applicants should ideally hold a relevant Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent or be willing to obtain one. A Certificate III in Sport and Recreation will be advantageous for this role.
Applicants should have a good current understanding of amateur and professional golf including tournament organisation, the world handicapping system and the workings of sporting bodies both amateur and professional.
There is an expectation that the successful candidate would also teach Health and Physical Education to Year 12 level and ideally have recent experience teaching Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) units and be able to thoroughly implement the requirements of the Western Australian Curriculum and encompass the curriculum set by Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

About the school
Como SC is an independent public school with students in Years 7 to 12 located between Manning Road and Canning Highway in the City of South Perth. The school has four very successful Department of Education endorsed specialist programs: Golf, Hockey, Music and Enriched Mathematics, Information Technology and Science (EMITS). Students from around Western Australia and overseas are enrolled in these programs. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy.
