Nedlands Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a School Psychologist to join their team.
It will be desirable for the successful applicant to have a high level of understanding of school systems and relevant Department of Education policies and effective school and classroom student engagement practices. They will be able to contribute psychological understandings and interventions to the conditions that support student engagement and well-being.
The School Psychologist provides psychological services, evidence-based assessments and intervention models and practices in mental health and well-being, behaviour, risk and critical incident management, learning and disability. The School Psychologist will provide these services at a system, group and individual level.
It will be highly desirable for the successful applicant to show leadership of innovative practice, with experience in initiating and implementing whole school wellness programs with attention to detail and functionality, including resourcing and upskilling staff.

Nedlands PS is located in Nedlands about 5kms from the CBD. Our school is walking distance from Kings Park, Matilda Bay and the University of Western Australia. Nedlands is a beautiful school, with heritage buildings and shaded by heritage trees. The playgrounds and sporting facilities are expansive and include a 25 metre swimming pool which is a shared school and community resource
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
