The School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) is seeking a hardworking and motivated Project Support Officer to join their team. We would like to encourage applicants that may only want to work 0.8FTE or 0.9FTE to apply.
The School provides educational support for children with a hearing loss and/or vision impairment from birth to completion of school. SSEN: S is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and supports children in both public and non-government schools throughout Western Australia.
SSEN: S operates the Deaf Education and Vision Education programs to support eligible children, their schools and families. SSEN: S employs teachers with specialist skills and other specialist staff such as educational audiologists, school psychologists, braille transcribers, captioner, Deaf education officers and educational interpreters.
SSEN: S supports young children from birth to completion of school at the SSEN: S Early Childhood Service (0-5 years) or in their local schools with Teacher of the Deaf support. Teachers of the Deaf deliver targeted learning programs based on the Expanded Core Curriculum including areas such as communication, audiology, assistive technology and self-advocacy.
The Project Support Officer will be responsible for coordinating, implementing and monitoring administrative systems and processes across the SSEN: S, as well as monitoring systems and databases to identify any opportunities for improvement. The Project Support Officer will also analyse data for future planning and provide statistical reports on school performance to administrators.
The successful applicant should ideally have previous experience in providing effective administrative support to a varied team, as well as experience in data management, statistical analysis and presenting reports. The successful applicant should ideally have excellent written communication skills to prepare briefing notes and correspondence, as well as strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships and liaise with a wide range of individuals across multiple sites state wide. The ability to effectively combine data from various sources including use of GIS techniques would be highly desirable.
The successful applicant will be located at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury where our main administrative office coordinates the day to day operation of our school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Skills and experience in providing effective administrative support.
- Well-developed skills in data management, statistical analysis and in presenting and reporting of data and information.
- Well-developed written communication skills and experience in the preparation of briefing notes, submissions and correspondence.
- Well-developed oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of individuals and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and identify priorities.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
