Kinross College is seeking a Head of Department (HOD) – Mathematics who will be a key member of the college leadership team. The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to provide educational leadership across Mathematics learning area and broader school community. In collaboration with the school’s leadership team, the HOD – Mathematics will support the implementation of the college business plan, and ideally be experienced in applying Classroom Management Strategies and progressive use of ICT in the classroom. Support and training is provided for these keys areas.
The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and leading an effective team of teachers focussed on providing high quality teaching and learning through curriculum planning and lesson delivery. They will provide curriculum leadership and coordinate the planning, teaching, learning and monitoring of students to ensure a wide range of teaching and learning strategies.
The HOD – Mathematics will ideally be an experienced classroom practitioner with a passion for their subject, and will ideally have the capacity to build a culture of excellence in their Learning Area that supports the needs of all students. As Kinross College aspires to extend to include Years 11 and 12, the successful applicant should be able to display their own professional practice with success in working with all ranges of students from Years 7 to 12. The successful applicant will ideally possess outstanding data analysis skills and the ability to apply this to improve student performance and achieve enhanced academic outcomes. They will be working to support and build staff capacity in teaching and learning as well as developing a professional learning culture of college staff and across our networks.
The successful applicant should have strong interpersonal skills, be a person who strives to excel and someone who is able to advance the Learning Area team to achieve great outcomes. The succcessful applicant should have a detailed knowledge of the Australian and Western Australian Curriculum for Mathematics.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
