Malibu School is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable and highly motivated Deputy Principal to join our team. Malibu School is a specialist school for students with special need in Kindergarten to Year 12. In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the executive leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by promoting the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision of ‘A future Without Limits’ by enhancing pathway planning and related programs to maximise students’ outcomes as they transition beyond school.
The successful applicant will ideally have a clear understanding of the learning environment required to prepare students for success in secondary school and beyond. They will lead operational strategies that support the effective management of related administrative timelines and the development of staff to meet student learning outcomes and performance expectations. With capacity to review school programs and processes, using data to make evidence-based decisions, the Deputy Principal will monitor student data and work collaboratively to enact leadership that supports active student engagement, wellbeing, academic achievement and staff self-efficacy. Applicants will ideally have highly effective case management skills and be able to provide feedback utilising highly effective communication skills, leading and consulting with staff to provide classroom support and contribute to the direction of our strategic agenda.
As an instructional leader, the successful candidate will ideally have a deep understanding of the K-10 Western Australian Curriculum, Abilities Based Learning Education, Western Australia (ABLEWA) and senior secondary programs with demonstrated success in facilitating effective classroom planning and practice, relevant to student ability, interest and need. Using effective change management strategies, the Deputy Principal will assist the school community to enhance classroom practice, with a particular focus on strengthening curriculum delivery to increase students’ access, engagement and independence. A demonstrated experience in empowering staff to deliver relevant programs with appropriate differentiation for all students is desirable, as is a high-level knowledge of a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and a strong knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support and Team Teach approaches and practices.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
