The successful applicant will be responsible for modelling important values and behaviours to the school and community, including a commitment to creating and sustaining effective professional learning communities within the school, and across all levels of the system. The Principal is responsible for understanding and leading the school community in promoting a vision for the future, underpinned by common purposes and values that will secure the commitment and alignment of stakeholders to realise the potential of all students. They will possess a commitment to continuous school improvement and development of the instructional program, particularly the pedagogy of beginning teachers, and building networks with other agencies, other schools, and services in the community to benefit school programs.
The Principal supports the Department’s objectives for the public education and training of students in Western Australia. The role of the Principal is to lead and manage the planning, delivery, evaluation and improvement of the education of all students in a community through the deployment of resources provided by the Department of Education and the school community.
About Cranbrook Primary School
Cranbrook Primary School is situated in the rural town of Cranbrook, in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The school was opened in 1893 and officially become an Independent Public School in 2018. Being a vibrant place, with a warm and caring school community, the school’s major focus is placed on positive relationships, the development of positive values, and the wellbeing of all members.
Currently, the school caters for approximately 62 children from Kindergarten to Year 6. There is a strong focus on numeracy and literacy. NAPLAN results are good, with strong comparison to 'like-schools'. The school has a very strong focus on sustainability, is part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, and has won a variety of awards for its sustainability approach. Students in Years 1 -6 cook each week (using produce from the school garden) and share together in meals.

Selection Criteria
During the selection process, you will need to demonstrate and will be assessed against the following six domains of practice - particular to the role of a principal:

In addition, the Department of Education has identified six critical personal attributes (the Department’s Leadership Attributes). These define the personal attributes and dispositions that are expected of a Principal. These attributes are;

- Interpersonal acumen,
- Self- awareness and
- Drive to excel.
Demonstration and assessment of these Leadership Attributes will form part of the assessment process for this position.

Eligibility and training requirements
Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
All appointees to Principal positions longer than 6 months in duration who have not completed 6 months or more in a WA public school principal role prior to January 2015 will be required to satisfactorily complete all Principal Eligibility Modules. The Principal Eligibility Modules which are completed online must be completed within 6 months of commencement in a principal role.
