The Role and our Branch
The Finance and Commercial Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Project Officer – Finance Support in the Financial Services Directorate.

You will have a lead role to plan, manage and coordinate the development and implementation of various finance related projects, in particular financial policy, systems, processes and controls, and other matters relating to financial governance to correlate with schools where relevant. The role will contribute to the strategic direction of education business services.
As the successful applicant you will be expected to promote a culture supportive of collaboration, innovation and continuous business process improvement, including identifying where systematic change and capacity building in schools/colleges and central / regional office may be required. The role will address identified risks, audit compliance needs and provide support with the development and review of system-wide strategies, guidelines and standards.
As the Principal Project Officer – Finance Support you will liaise with senior officers within central office, regional offices, schools and colleges and provide advice and support to make enhancements into their environments. Also provide advice, support and training in response to needs identified through research and analysis of performance.

Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria:
- Considerable understanding and knowledge of policy, procedures and accounting practices within the legislative framework, such as the Financial Management in Schools Policy and Procedures, School Education Act, State Supply Act, the Financial Management Act, Regulations and Treasurer’s Instructions and Tax legislations.
- Highly developed skills and experience in the management of the provision of user friendly and integrated financial management systems and substantial knowledge of contemporary financial management methodologies, systems and practices.
- Highly developed skills and experience in achieving outcomes and delivering quality projects and services consistent with customer needs and defined quality expectations, including timeliness.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to undertake productive consultation, collaboration and negotiation and to build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders on complex financial issues.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in preparing reports, briefing papers and responses to Senior Executive and/or Ministerial/Parliamentary requests.
- Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills to provide innovative solutions to complex problems.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, Finance or related area
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- undertake frequent travel to schools and regional education offices
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
