The WA College of Agriculture – Denmark is seeking a highly dedicated and motivated individual to become part of their team as a Technical Officer – Agricultural Instruction.
The Technical Officer – Agricultural Instruction is directly involved in the day-to-day operation of the farm enterprises and the implementation of the farm development plan. The successful applicant will maintain enterprises on the farm which may include livestock management, cropping, horticulture, mechanics and building maintenance. You will also assist in the preparation and delivery of agricultural education and training programs and with the instruction and supervision of groups of students in a workplace environment. A wide range of general farm skills will be highly desirable for this position.
The successful applicant will provide on-the-job workplace training to Year 10, 11 and 12 students, deliver and assess training in Certificates II and III in Agriculture and be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health requirements. The ability to role model outstanding employability skills and to work with students in a teaching/training capacity is highly desirable.
Located just east of the town centre of Denmark, The College is a 400 hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10, 11 and 12 students offering a wide variety of studies with an agricultural focus.
While the majority of students are residential, there are a number of day students and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. From its early beginnings in 1942 on the site of the current campus, The College has evolved considerably and moved to its present purpose-built facility in 1999, with a capacity of around 140 students.
Our educational program is balanced and provides a mix of hands-on practical work complemented by supporting knowledge provided in a classroom environment. The College is unique in that it offers accredited industry training alongside secondary education. As well as Certificates in Agriculture and related trades, the College offers a variety of accredited short courses for study each year.
The College offers students a wide range of excursions and camps throughout their attendance. Students attend shows such as the Perth Royal Show, Wagin and Woolarama. There are regular camps to regional beaches, surfing and scuba diving and local and regional sports including the Country Week competition in Perth.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
Please note: The salary level for this position will be determined after the successful applicant is assessed as addressing all eligibility and selection criteria indicated in the relevant attached JDF in the context of the outcomes and selection criteria described.
The highest rate an applicant can start at as a L1 is Level 1.4 (as negotiated with the principal). However, applicants may still be able to commence at a L2.1 or L3.1 if suitably qualified or with requisite experience.
Level 2, $63,172 - $68,256 per annum (PSCA 2019)
Level 3, $71,896 - $77,717 per annum (PSCA 2019)
