Wellard Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated, dynamic and hardworking Science Teacher to join our friendly team.
The successful applicant will be a science teacher who builds trust-filled, quality relationships with students, parents and staff. You will ideally have the skills to be able to support and encourage the students to achieve the aims outlined in the Western Australian curriculum and the School vision. To be successful, you will ideally have outstanding science curriculum knowledge, high emotional intelligence, be a high-quality teacher and be willing to “go the extra mile”.
As a Science Teacher at our school you will provide a quality program to engage and educate students from Years 1 to 6 about living in an environmentally conscious and sustainable future. The successful applicant should foster student curiosity, inspire a love of Science and prioritise creative and critical thinking within an investigation-based program You will ideally possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills that will be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. You should work effectively in a team environment as well as have quality teaching within the school’s expectations of implementing explicit instruction pedagogy that enables students to achieve their potential. The successful applicant will work closely with students, teachers and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students in the classroom and extra-curricular contexts.
The successful applicant will foster student curiosity and inspire a love of science for all students at their individual levels and collaborate and work closely with staff and the administration team. You would also utilise the opportunity for hands on learning experiences and encourage students to ask questions and seek answers through experimentation and observation. The successful applicant should also encourage the use of scientific vocabulary in their teaching to enhance the communication skills of students. The successful applicant will also provide students with a strong level of support to achieve their best. In this role, you will provide high work standards and make connections with prior learning in the science curriculum to build a richer understanding of science.
Wellard PS opened in 2018 and expects to commence 2022 with 780 students from Kindergarten to Year Six. Our school provides the local community with state-of-the-art educational facilities and a range of whole school teaching programs to support all students in their learning and development. The goal for Wellard PS is to develop resilient students who are literate, numerate, and curious learners.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
