Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an innovative and vibrant Program Coordinator - Arts who will be a key member of the school’s leadership team.
The successful candidate should have the capacity to provide educational leadership across The Arts learning area and broader school community. In collaboration with the school’s leadership team, The Arts Program Coordinator will support the implementation of the Kelmscott SHS Business Plan and the school’s pedagogical approach. This includes leading high quality curriculum development; implementation of high impact teaching strategies that cater for student diversity; and the contemporary use of learning technologies.
A key aspect of the role is to facilitate workforce effectiveness, both as a leader and trainer in school-wide practices. The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff members in their team. The successful applicant would be expected to maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of the team by continuing to develop a collaborative and productive culture. The Arts Program Coordinator should be a role model for self-development to improve professional performance.
The successful applicant should be an expert classroom practitioner with a passion for their subject and the capacity to build a culture of excellence that supports the needs of all students from Years 7 to 12. The Program Coordinator of The Arts should possess knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum for The Arts and the implementation requirements which accompany these, along with the capacity to manage a team of specialist teachers. The successful applicant should possess outstanding data analysis skills and the ability to apply this to improve student performance and achieve enhanced academic outcomes at cohort, class and individual student levels.
Kelmscott SHS celebrates a proud history of performing arts with its concert bands, orchestras, choirs, ensembles and a drama club. We are introducing dance into Years 7 and 8 in 2022. Music in senior secondary includes the delivery of ATAR and General courses. The Visual Arts program includes the delivery of VET, Design: Photography, Visual Arts General and Media. Endorsed Programs in Community Arts Performance and Music Performance Ensemble are also on offer.
In collaboration with members of the leadership team, the Program Coordinator of The Arts provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, and encouraging staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals. Using effective change management strategies, the suitable applicant will lead the school community to develop opportunities for improved service in The Arts. The Program Coordinator of The Arts will oversee the coordination of Arts events such as exhibitions, showcases and productions.
Please note that a teaching load of up to 0.6FTE may be required, dependent on the business needs of the school.
Kelmscott SHS is a school of opportunity for students offering Department of Education endorsed Specialist Programs in Agriculture and Music, Gifted & Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Program and a range of Kelmscott Extension Programs (KEP) in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities & Social Sciences. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
