The WA College of Agriculture – Cunderdin (WACOA - Cunderdin) is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, passionate and enthusiastic leader for the position of Head of Department – Curriculum.
The WACOA - Cunderdin provides Year 11 and 12 students with a unique educational experience focused on innovation and excellence and was awarded the 2020 WA School of the Year for WACE Attainment. About the role:
As the ideal applicant, you will be a highly-skilled practitioner and have the capacity to develop staff, with a focus on high quality teaching, performance and accountability. You will provide purposeful and focused leadership and effectively lead the daily management of the Class area. With the ability to lead change and innovation, you will use evidence-based data to inform all decision making.
It is an exciting time to lead the ‘Class’ area of our College. As Head of Class you will be leading a committed and dynamic team of highly capable practitioners across multiple learning areas to develop a context-specific teaching framework which will embed Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) critical thinking processes and practices and incorporate evidence-based teaching practices such as Explicit Direct Instruction pedagogies. The ideal applicant will be knowledgeable and have expertise in these areas to lead the development and implementation of this framework initially within the Class area, with a view to rolling out adaptations across all Instructional areas of the College.
The successful applicant should understand the learning needs of all students, inclusive of students requiring remedial intervention in either literacy or numeracy and have experience in establishing programs, processes and strategies to assist students with disability or specific learning disorders to achieve their potential. In addition, you will have the capacity to develop and implement strategies to support and extend capable students and continue to grow the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) pathway which is a College priority.
You will ideally be a team player and collaborate with all areas of the College to support holistic student success. You will achieve this through having exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on collegiality and establishing effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and the broader community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
