Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Program Coordinator - Gifted and Talented (GAT) ideally with the experience, dedication and drive, to develop a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. The Program Coordinator - GAT will be a key member of the school’s leadership team, providing educational leadership in the school and the community through developing and promoting the school’s vision and values. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other leaders and teachers to ensure that the academic and pastoral care needs of students involved in the program are consistently met to a very high standard.
The Program Coordinator - GAT should be an inspirational leader who is able to manage complex situations; provide support and direction to students and teachers; ideally possess outstanding interpersonal skills; and the ability to effectively manage the deployment of resources. The successful applicant will utilise their professional knowledge and high level communication skills to build effective relationships with staff, students, parents/carers and the community.
Our program has a collaborative approach to curriculum delivery to support student development and achievement. We are looking for leader who ideally has demonstrated experience in marketing and promotion; capable of engaging and supporting the school’s programs to create positive and inclusive learning environments; and actively promotes curiosity for learning.
The Program Coordinator - GAT should have the experience, knowledge and passion for gifted education. The role will also include coordination of the school-based Kelmscott Extension (KEP) classes in the lower secondary cohorts. The successful applicant will develop partnerships with external agencies to provide enrichment opportunities for students within these programs. In addition, he/she should have the ability and skill set to build the capacity of the GAT and Academic Extension staff to deliver high quality teaching and learning programs.
The Program Coordinator - GAT will ideally be a passionate and expert classroom practitioner who displays an understanding of the needs of gifted and talented teaching and learning. The successful applicant should have strong skills in curriculum development, including authentic differentiation, to ensure high level outcomes for academically gifted students. He/she should have strong knowledge of instructional intelligence, higher order thinking skills, project based learning and critical and creative thinking. Ideally, the successful applicant will have experience in working with twice exceptional (2e) students, with specific skills in supporting these students and building teacher capacity around individual learning needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Applicants that have completed the Gifted Education Research, Resource and Information Centre (GERRIC) modules and/or a Graduate Certificate of Gifted Education and have the capacity to deliver these programs to other staff involved in teaching the program, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Program Coordinator- GAT will have an unrelenting focus on excellence in teaching and learning and the attainment of the highest possible educational outcomes, for the Kelmscott SHS community.
Specifically, you will:
- lead the school’s GAT Program;
- lead and sustain a GAT/KEP teaching culture defined by best practice curriculum design and delivery, instructional strategies and assessment strategies;
- work collaboratively with other leaders to ensure the development and articulation of a school-wide response to the teaching and learning needs of GAT/KEP students;
- provide ongoing strategic data analysis to track performance and identify areas of strength and development within the GAT/KEP Program;
- ensure appropriate and timely individualised student enrichment and differentiation;
- work collaboratively with Student Services, school leaders and teachers to ensure the school’s policies and practices are informed by an appreciation of the particular social and emotional needs of GAT students;
- Build and maintain productive partnerships with GAT and KEP, parents/carers; and
- proactively explore opportunities and build networks to enhance the outcomes for GAT and KEP students.
Please note that a teaching load of up to 0.6FTE may be required, dependent on the business needs of the school.
Kelmscott SHS is a school of opportunity for students offering Department of Education endorsed Specialist Programs in Agriculture and Music, Gifted & Talented Secondary Selective Entrance Program and a range of Kelmscott Extension Programs (KEP) in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities & Social Sciences. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
