South Thornlie Primary School (PS) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Italian Language Teacher to join their team.
The successful applicant will inspire a passion for learning the Italian language through a dynamic and creative learning environment and be confident in teaching students across Years 1 to 6. There should be a particular focus on providing relevant and engaging courses linking to the Western Australian Curriculum to meet the expected standards of Language. You should have high expectations, possess a commitment to excellence and have the ability to maintain a positive classroom learning environment through the use of effective behaviour and engagement strategies. You will ideally be an expert teacher of Italian, as well as being flexible and able to apply strategies of differentiated instruction and explicit teaching.
The successful applicant will ideally be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. You will ideally have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and should engage in ongoing self-reflection to assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice and your ability to create an environment conducive to learning. The successful applicant will provide educational opportunities which provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs. You will be expected to participate in collaborative whole school planning processes and be committed to ongoing professional development to ensure adherence to school priorities and direction.
South Thornlie PS was first opened in 1976 and has since grown into a vibrant and diverse school with strong community links. Our school currently has over 425 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We celebrate multiculturalism with approximately 32% of our students coming from a language background other than English who speak over 40 different languages. All staff are committed to helping students reach their full potential through the development of a curriculum that caters for the needs of all individuals.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
