The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking to recruit a qualified, highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant, Secondary – Curriculum and Assessment to be part of a challenging and rewarding education opportunity. The position requires an individual with specialised expertise in the teaching of Hindi Language in Year 11 and Year 12.
The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all students being taught the Western Australian Curriculum to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
Located in Curriculum and Assessment in the Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy Directorate, the Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment (Languages) manages the development and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials in the area of Languages, with a particular emphasis on Languages in Year 11 and Year 12 (Hindi).
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work as part of an enthusiastic and
self-motivated team and conceptualise and complete curriculum projects. They will be responsible for:
- developing curriculum for Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR Second Language and Background Language courses in Hindi
- facilitating consultation and collaborative processes between school systems/sector, schools and other stakeholder organisations to share ideas and devise common approaches on the implementation of the Authority’s policies and procedures
- managing physical resources, if required, in a manner which meets legislated requirements and provides executive support for advisory committees as required
- providing high-level advice, correspondence and briefings to the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, school systems/sector as required
- organising, facilitating and coordinating seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations and school systems/sector as required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- completed any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of this vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
