Karratha Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to establish a pool of Teachers - Health and Physical Education for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year.
Suitable applicants will ideally be able to work and teach in a collaborative team environment, be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives and have a strong evidence based teaching approach. We are seeking applicants who can create a learning environment that is differentiated, challenging, caring and creative and that caters for the range of needs, so all students can achieve and progress.
The school is seeking applicants who are enthusiastic with a keen interest in Health and Physical Education and who are able to instil this enthusiasm in students. You will ideally possess skills and professional knowledge relevant to the secondary Health and Physical Education curriculum and have experience in outdoor activity pursuits to support secondary learning programs. The school is able to access facilities at the Leisureplex as part of delivering Health and Physical Education curriculum.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Karratha SHS teachers are expected to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, explicitly use an Instructional Model (Visible Learning) in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Karratha SHS has a population of approximately 1300 students and is situated on a state of the art campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
