Denmark Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a highly reflective and motivated instructional leader who will join their Executive team to provide quality educational leadership.
The successful applicant will be equally capable of supporting the principal in leading the management of the school.
In collaboration with the school’s executive and the senior leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides leadership in the school and community by promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. The successful applicant will be responsible for areas such as, but not limited to, the early adolescent phase of schooling and school operations.
With a capacity to review school programs and processes, using data to make evidence-based decisions, the successful applicant will monitor student data and work collaboratively to enact leadership that supports active student engagement, academic achievement and teacher self-efficacy. The ability to demonstrate flexible and adaptable change management processes, being sensitive to the needs of both staff and students, is essential.
You will have a clear understanding of the learning environment required to prepare early adolescent students for success in secondary school and beyond. You will lead operational strategies to support the development of staff to meet student learning outcomes and performance expectations.
Key to this role is that the successful applicant has the ability to care; be curious about learning and about learners; be invested in the school and the community; have a sense of humour and be reflective of themselves and their practice. The successful applicant will plan strategically for positive outcomes and, with high professional knowledge in instructional practice, they will aim to sustain a culture that promotes educational best practice. Denmark SHS is located in the Shire of Denmark within the Great Southern region of Western Australia and near the banks of the Denmark River. Built on its current site in 2000, the school is set on 19 hectares of land one kilometre east of the town centre. The school provides a comprehensive Year 7 to Year 12 secondary school education.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
