Applecross Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Teacher
The successful applicant will teach Humanities and Social Sciences across a range of ability levels from Year 7 to Year 12. We are seeking someone who is able to take a leading role in one of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) HASS subjects. You will be responsible for supporting a collaborative approach to curriculum leadership and planning by providing tailored learning programs to suit the needs of all students in our school community and modelling exemplary teaching and learning strategies in their delivery of the WA Curriculum. You will ideally have sound classroom management skills, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students, and practise a range of teaching strategies that will support our whole school pedagogical framework.
Applecross SHS, which is situated approximately 8 kilometres south of the city of Perth, embraces a tradition of excellence and maintains a reputation for high academic, vocational sporting and cultural achievements for secondary students in Years 7 to 12. The school offers programs in Vocational Education and Training, Visual Arts (Gifted and Talented), and elite Tennis (Specialist Program), plus Academic Extension programs. The Academic Extension Program provides special classes for students who have been selected on the basis of their performance. Students in the program are offered a wide range of rich learning experiences and are required to complete more in-depth studies to develop the high level skills and competencies required for independent learners.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
