Appointment Pool
The Ministerial Services Unit is seeking to establish a pool of Ministerial Liaison Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2021 and up to the end of December 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2021 up to the end of December 2022.
Suitable applicants will manage requests from the Minister’s office, including correspondence and briefing notes, editing content to ensure ministerial responses meet required guidelines in terms of style and formatting, and monitoring timelines so that quality and timely responses are delivered. You will provide advice and support to both the Minister’s office and Department staff on the status of ministerial requests and use the Ministerial Tracking System to register, assign, track progress and complete ministerial requests.
The Ministerial Liaison Officer will be a team player who is well-organised, pays attention to detail with strong communication skills. You will be dealing direct with the Minister’s office, the Department’s senior executive and staff at different levels to provide quality advice and ensure compliance is met.
The Ministerial Services Unit is a strong team which works closely with the office of the Minister for Education and Training. Working in the unit provides an overview of the whole of the Department's business, which is a good foundation for learning about and understanding its operations.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver responses within strict timelines.
- Well developed written communication skills and the proven ability to review and edit correspondence.
- Well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide quality advice, liaise effectively with staff at different levels in an organisation and work in a collaborative team environment.
- Well developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to identify problems and provide strategies to address them.
- Well developed computing skills, an understanding of information systems and the ability to deliver instruction and training to staff.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
