Sevenoaks Senior College is seeking a motivated, energetic and talented leader to join the Executive at the College.
We are seeking to appoint a Vice Principal (Level 5) to provide educational leadership with the capacity to strongly influence the strategic directions of the College whilst adding value to our progressive, caring culture which is underpinned by the College’s young adult learning environment.
The Vice Principal will provide forward thinking leadership across a number of senior school portfolios whilst ensuring that all aspects of the College Business Plan and College research are monitored and reviewed regularly with staff to ensure that suitable strategies and processes are in place to ensure ongoing improvement. This will include alignment to the directions of the Department of Education plan and focus areas. As a member of the College Board the Vice Principal will support the Principal in presenting information to the Board on progress of the College, including effective and compliant resource management practices.
A sophisticated professional learning culture exists in the College and includes University research and data analysis, classroom observation, teacher coach initiative, pedagogical learning communities, and targeted professional learning sessions. The Vice Principal will be a part of and support the ongoing development of this culture ensuring the ‘life-long learner’ ethos embraced by the College staff is not only maintained but continues to evolve to a 21st Century education model of learning and development.
Using strong leadership and interpersonal skills along with effective change management and team effectiveness strategies the Vice Principal will assist in leading the College community to explore, develop and implement opportunities to build on engagement, participation and achievement of the Year 11 and 12 cohorts. This will be supported through embedding and maintaining aspects of the College culture that promote positive relationships between students, parents/carers and staff and the wide range of external partnerships which operate to support the College.
As a senior college, superior knowledge in relation to School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) courses and requirements and the changing forces which continue to operate on senior secondary schooling would be essential in leading the College community through the next phase of its development. Operationally, knowledge pertaining to timetable construction and maintenance, Reporting to Parents (RTP) and student information records system (SIRS), student records management system (SRMS) would be beneficial. In addition, knowledge and understanding of the range of numerous and complex issues which young people are confronted with will be critical in working with students and their families as they navigate the final years of their secondary schooling.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
