Sutherland Dianella Primary School (PS) is seeking a collaborative, flexible and personable School Psychologist to join our school.
The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, caregivers and other agencies. They will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated student services team.
The successful applicant will have a good understanding of school systems and effective school and classroom student engagement practices. They will be able to contribute psychological understandings and interventions to the conditions that support student engagement and well-being.
Sutherland Dianella PS is a culturally diverse school and students have a variety of complex needs. We seek an applicant who is invested in our school community and who has the ability to assist teachers to cater for the complex needs within their classrooms. We are in partnership with Curtin University and the incumbent will work alongside the Curtin Social Work and Psychology students as part of their role. The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with all stakeholders. The successful applicant will be a proactive practitioner who can multi-task to ensure key timelines are met.
The School Psychologist provides psychological services and evidence-based assessments and interventions in mental health and well-being, behaviour, risk and critical incident management, learning and disability. The School Psychologist will provide these services at a system, group and individual level.
Sutherland Dianella Primary School has a present enrolment of 350 students who come from many different cultures. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
