John Curtin College of the Arts is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Italian language teacher. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about language learning and the opportunities it provides for young people.
The successful applicant should have high expectations and a commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. You will ideally have the professional knowledge, understanding and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school Italian language curriculum across all year groups, and ideally have experience working with very able students. The ability to utilise a range of pedagogies, engage and motivate students and implement effective classroom management strategies to establish and maintain an active and positive classroom learning environment should be a strength of the successful candidate. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in the Italian language, experience in planning curriculum and effectively utilising Information Communication Technology to enhance student learning. Knowledge of the new Year 7 to 10 Western Australian curriculum is desirable. Applicants with an understanding and/or experience teaching gifted and talented students and who are able to teach across more than one learning area will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally support the implementation of the college’s Business Plan, be committed to whole college approaches and initiatives and have a strong evidence based approach to teaching. Adopting inclusive practices, differentiating the curriculum and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role.

Our college caters for 1800 students from Years 7 to 12. Our programs reflect our belief that all students are individual and come with different learning needs. We use the Arts as a vehicle for student engagement and motivation. The Arts at John Curtin is as much about providing dynamic opportunities for all students (each year we produce over 100 performances/exhibitions) as it is about developing transferable life skills such as empathy, creative and critical thinking, collaboration and the ability to communicate, all important attributes for any future pathway.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
