Joondalup Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to appoint a collaborative and knowledgeable Associate Principal to their Administration Team.
The Associate Principal will provide strong educational leadership across the school community; progressing the school’s improvement agenda and strategic planning. The role involves leading whole school initiatives including evidence based teaching practices, lesson design and methodologies, and building the capacity of teachers through classroom observation and in-class coaching. The ability to analyse data to inform teaching and learning and strong interpersonal skills when working with parents and stakeholders is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally show a proven capacity to build and support teams and expertise in the effective use of instructional strategies to enhance learner outcomes is highly desirable. Applicants will work collegiately and collaboratively, but can also show a level of independence and initiative in the way that they work to support staff, students and families within our school.
We are seeking a committed and proactive leader who will work with us to lead, manage and monitor the continuous school improvement cycle of high quality teaching and learning in every classroom, providing high quality teaching and learning practice, student engagement and behaviour education, and the provision of pastoral care.
Joondalup ESC is a modern, innovative, Independent Public School specialising in the education of children with special needs. Joondalup ESC caters for children with global developmental delay, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and special education needs from Kindergarten to Year 6.
The School provides an inclusive and caring environment that challenges students to develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Opened in 1993 for 16 students, Joondalup ESC has developed and remains responsive and proactive to the needs of the community. The school currently has over 100 enrolments with custom-built facilities designed by specialist teams.
Purpose-built areas of the school include a STEM room, two sensory rooms and multiple playgrounds.
Joondalup ESC shares the campus with Joondalup Primary School. Both schools are dedicated to working collaboratively and have many exciting initiatives and established partnerships in place to foster progressive and authentic learning experiences for all students.
The school has a strong focus on inclusivity, with some students working alongside their primary school peers in planned activities. Staff from both schools work closely together to provide maximum support. The classroom numbers are kept small, in favour of a high staff to student ratio, to ensure each child is given every opportunity to succeed.
Technology has become a natural part of classroom teaching and learning and all students have access to individualised iPads. Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) is a school focus is embedded into each class as part of each staff member’s skill set.
A number of specialist programs are delivered including Visual Arts Years, African Drumming, STEM, Music, and Physical Education and Perceptual Motor Programs.
The school’s 2020-2022 Business Plan has four focus areas: The Most Viable Curriculum; Collaboration; Shared Language; and Attendance.
In keeping with an ethos of being a warm, caring and friendly community, every child is treated as a valued individual. The theme 'Learning for Life' into every day and believe this is relevant for both students and staff.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
