Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an engaging and dedicated Teacher – Design and Technology to join our school.
The successful applicant will teach Design and Technology with a Digital Technology component from Year 7 to Year 12. You will ideally have sound interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and be able to work cooperatively in a Technologies Learning Area team. Sound classroom management, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students, the ability to differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs and to practise a range of teaching strategies are highly desirable for this position. Holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment in your specialised area is desirable, but not essential.
The successful applicant will ideally be a Teacher who can engage students and challenge them to achieve their personal best. You should be able to work effectively in a team and independently, while supporting the initiatives and programs in Design and Technology, within Karratha SHS. In addition, you will engage in professional learning and liaise with colleagues, parents and external networks.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Our Teachers are expected to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, explicitly use an Instructional Model in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Our school has a population of approximately 1300 students and is situated on a state of the art, dynamic and revolutionary campus, which was completed in 2013, with an additional state of the art Technologies block currently under construction to be ready in 2023. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
