Advertised Vacancy Number: SS/SS686906
This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2021
Are you an organised and motivated individual looking for a rewarding change?
Ngaanyatjarra Lands School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Project Officer – Two-Way Yarnangu Curriculum Coordinator - to join their friendly team to lead important two-way curriculum work.
The successful applicant will lead the creation and implementation of a Yanarngu curriculum – inclusive of Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Pintupi/Lurritja language and culture. This role will require a lived experience of language and culture from within the language groups indicated and an additional capacity to interpret and translate between the languages identified and SAE. The successful applicant will lead community and school consultation to oversee production of curriculum documents that will align with the Western Australian Curriculum to form a two-way curriculum. This work will involve collaboration with both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members and educators.
The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to work within the contexts of local communities, working with senior Anangu/Yarnangu advisors, in addition to working from the NLS head office in Warakurna and leading the curriculum development through professional workshops and consultation. Contribution to the development of an Anangu/Yarnangu Workforce Development plan also forms part of this role as Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs) and other Anangu/Yarnangu staff will be trained to lead the implementation of the Language and Culture Curriculum in their respective communities.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to liaise with stakeholders at various levels. You will also ideally be organised and have good conceptual and analytical skills. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is highly desirable.
In 2007 schools dispersed throughout the Ngaanyatjarra Lands were federated into a single institution. They became campuses of the Ngaanyatjarra Lands School operating under the leadership of an Executive Principal. This was done to enable them to develop a strategic framework and to work collaboratively, share resources and better address the disadvantages that can arise from their geographic isolation. The School now comprises eight campuses spread across the Western Desert of Western Australia and provides for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Although the campuses are separated by large distances they are bound together by the culture of the Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantjatjara and Pintupi/Lurritja people.
