Hedland Senior High School is seeking an innovative, forward thinking and strategic Associate Principal to join our executive leadership team. The successful applicant will be an energetic, proactive and enthusiastic educator who is passionate and highly effective in leading whole school improvement.
We are looking for a highly effective leader who can demonstrate and/or has a proven capacity to develop a range of skills and understandings within the Associate Principal role. You will exhibit initiative and have problem solving capacity to develop solutions which will cater for the wide variety of demands in our complex school.
About the role
The Associate Principal will work closely with the Principal as part of the school’s executive team to provide educational leadership, innovation, strategic planning and promotion of the school’s vision, mission and values in the school community. The suitable applicant will have a critical role in whole school strategic planning including the school improvement agenda and in the review and realisation of the School Business Plan.
To be successful in this role, the applicant will be committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. You will have a clear understanding of the learning environment required to enhance the learning opportunities of our students for success in school and beyond. You will develop evidence based strategies to ensure the school’s commitment to high academic standards and expectations of all students and staff.
With the commitment and desire to create and sustain a student-centred learning environment built on strong relationships, you will identify and implement strategies to meet the diverse needs of students and their families. You will communicate effectively and with diplomacy and modify your leadership to obtain the best outcomes for all, whilst modelling and promoting the school’s vision, mission and core values of: Care, Courtesy, Respect and Responsibility.
Taking into consideration the school’s planning structures, financial and budget considerations and legislative requirements, your professional knowledge and experience should include: whole school curriculum planning and innovation, STEM, human resource management; workforce planning, Performance Development, professional learning leadership and school resourcing. In this role you will also support the schools’ strategic direction through the collection and analysis of data.
Being able to improve teacher pedagogy that reflects current research and best practices as well as classroom observations, are also key components of the role. You will ideally possess exceptional interpersonal, organisational, and instructional leadership skills as you lead teams to drive school improvement; developing and maintaining positive relationships with all staff to build on their capacity to improve student outcomes.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
