This is a thirty-six (36) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 4, 2021
La Grange Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Secondary teacher to join their team.
The successful applicant will develop relationships with students, community and staff, lead the continued implementation of the VET and Pathways program and coordinate on-country activities within the secondary school as well as teach in the classroom.
The school has ongoing professional learning and development of the secondary school instructional model with a highly supportive leadership team, focused on improving student outcomes. We have a continued emphasis on professional team growth and the implementation of effective, research based teaching and learning strategies. These include explicit instruction, the use of evidence and data and collaboration to improve student outcomes.
Applicants should be prepared to participate in whole school and phase planning as well as collaborative and curriculum teams. It is highly desirable that applicants demonstrate a high level of collaborative practice to enable effective participation and engagement within the school.
Our staff are team orientated and committed to implementing the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and the Stronger Smarter philosophy. The successful applicant will ideally be able to demonstrate their knowledge and where applicable, experience in these areas and impact on school and student outcomes.
Additionally, the successful applicant will have the capacity to engage with external agencies and organisations such as ranger groups, TAFE and other Registered Training Organisations to enhance meaningful student pathways.
La Grange RCS is situated in the Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community in the Kimberley region, on Karajarri country, 180km south of Broome. Bidyadanga is a diverse community with five language groups. It is a desirable location and offers an opportunity to live and learn about Aboriginal culture, providing a lifestyle of abundant outdoor and recreation activities.
As the largest Remote Community School in the state, La Grange RCS caters to the educational needs of all school aged children in the Bidyadanga community and classes range from Pre-Kindergarten (0-3 year olds) up to Year 12.
In addition to a strong commitment to developing the literacy and numeracy skills of its students, La Grange RCS offers a diverse range of specialist programs across all year levels including music, art, physical education and information technology and a focus on cultural learning.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
