This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP with possible extension (6 months)
Business and Customer Services are seeking to appoint a Senior Project Officer Data and Information Governance.
The successful applicant will ensure collaboration between Corporate Information Services and ICT to coordinate and develop a plan for an organisation-wide data discovery and inventory project to align with the recommendations of the ICT Review of Confidential and Sensitive Data Security. They will identify the types of data and their owners throughout the Department and, provide expertise in the development of data classification, privacy and data protection policies and the alignment of data classification levels. Additionally, they will establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The Business and Customer Services (BCS) Directorate supports the objectives and outcomes of clients by providing value for money corporate services through skilled and motivated people. BCS aims to deliver services within an environment of standardised systems and processes.
The Corporate Information Services Branch works to improve the quality, accessibility, reliability and security of information, to support departmental business and is responsible for the provision of records management, Freedom of Information (FOI) and Library services.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy and security legislation that governs the way agencies handle personal information, data privacy and data security.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, and provide innovative thinking and strategic options in addressing them.
- Highly developed project management skills, including management of timelines and physical and financial resources.
- Highly developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate, liaise and negotiate with individuals at all levels.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
