Safety Bay Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and innovative Deputy Principal to join our team.
The successful applicant will ideally have extensive experience and professional knowledge in Early Childhood Education, particularly early intervention. They should be an instructional leader; able to build the capacity of staff to deliver high quality Early Childhood learning programs by modelling effective teacher practice.
The successful applicant will lead Special Education Needs (SEN)/Students at Education Risk (SAER) processes within the school. They will ideally possess the ability to collaborate with families and external agencies to support students at-risk, in addition to experience in disability resourcing and complex individual case management. Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed practice is highly desirable. The successful applicant will facilitate staff professional learning opportunities to enable educators to effectively cater for all students.
Safety Bay PS is a positive and collaborative learning community that fosters a sense of belonging and supports students to reach their academic and social goals. The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to lead school improvement and be committed to ongoing self-assessment processes. They will utilise evidence based approaches to lead change and improve literacy and numeracy outcomes within the Early Childhood setting. Knowledge of Visible Learning in the Early Childhood setting is highly desirable.
Safety Bay PS is located within the City of Rockingham, approximately 45 km south of Perth. It has been rebuilt from the original site into a well-planned and resourced school which accommodates a growing population, sitting at just over 700 students.
Our school caters for students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Since first opening its doors at the Safety Bay Yacht Club in 1942, we have enjoyed a strong and successful partnership with the local community. From these origins strong relationships have been built through the attendance of successive generations of family members at our school. Our reputation for being a friendly, family-oriented school continues to this day.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
