Gooseberry Hill Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and reliable Cleaner in Charge (CIC) to lead their team of cleaners.
The CIC is responsible for the management of cleaning staff, including relief staff. The CIC maintains the cleaners’ time book, arranges relief staff and is responsible for monitoring and ordering stock supplies and opening and locking the school, including setting the security alarm system.
The successful applicant will ideally have good communication and interpersonal skills and be a conscientious, reliable worker having knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods, and practices. The CIC ensures the cleaning team maintains a high level of cleaning throughout the school.
As the CIC, they should be able to lead a team of cleaning staff to ensure the school environment is maintained in accordance with Department of Education policies and procedures. The ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets and the safe use of cleaning chemicals is highly desirable. It is also desirable for applicants to have experience in supervising staff, as the successful applicant will work alongside school staff and manage staff performance in consultation with the Manager Corporate Services.
Gooseberry Hill PS is located approximately 20 kilometres from the CBD in a unique bush setting with nearby national parks and local reserves and it is often frequented by a range of bird life and native wildlife. The school was established in 1972 and during this time has created an enviable record of being a nurturing school, committed to excellence and supported by a caring community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete the Department’s online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement
- Complete Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
- Complete any other training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process
