Are you an innovative teacher, looking to make a difference in outcomes for students in regional and remote Western Australia?
Are you excited to be part of the evolution of distance education in Western Australia?
School Of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking to establish a pool of specialist teachers of Students at Educational Risk (SAER) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2022.
Suitable applicants will work within the Learning Support team at SIDE to develop individual learning programs for students in Years 7 to 12 with learning difficulties, including Education Support students and those who are at educational risk. There is a major focus on building literacy and numeracy skills, and cross curricular approaches are used in the adaptation and development of learning materials across the four lower secondary MESH subject areas of Maths, English, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences.
Teachers in the Learning Support team will also work with senior secondary students who are engaged in a variety of programs including Preliminary English and Mathematics courses, Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network (ASDAN) courses and appropriate vocational certificates. Ideally you will have a qualification and/or experience in Special Needs Education and/or Education Support, an understanding of the Australian Curriculum, and capacity to provide inclusive experiences. Experience with the Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network (ASDAN) program will also be highly desirable.
As a teacher with SIDE you will exhibit innovation and creativity in classroom practices and cater for student diversity. It is highly desirable that successful applicants are able to understand instructional and curriculum design, exhibit self-reflective practices with a focus on quality teaching and work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment. Suitable applicants will also have the ability to teach students from culturally diverse backgrounds including those who have English as an additional language/dialect.
In this role you will embrace the idea of delivering the curriculum through Information Communication Technology (ICT). Teachers at SIDE make use of different technologies to achieve student outcomes. Our teachers are expected to engage students in an online format and use synchronous (WebEx) and asynchronous (Moodle) technologies as the basis of active student instruction. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work.
SIDE has a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities. As a teacher with SIDE, you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia, delivering high-quality distance education programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students. Our regional visit travel program also allows teachers to meet and work face-to-face with students in all corners of the state.
