This is a six (6) month fixed term, part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2021
Fremantle College is seeking a dedicated, self-motivated, and reliable individual to join their team in the role of Gardener - Handyperson for our diverse school grounds, who is available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
As a Gardener - Handyperson, you will work in a team to present our school grounds in a clean, attractive and tidy condition. The successful applicant will work to provide gardening, grounds and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. They will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean and tidy condition, and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management.
We are seeking applicants with effective communication skills to help develop and maintain good working relationships with school staff and external stakeholders concerning school grounds maintenance. To be successful in this role you will ideally be confident in performing minor repairs and have a sound knowledge of safe work practices in order to carry out your duties. You will ideally have the capacity to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed, without specific direction. The ability to work additional days to cover relief would be advantageous.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process
