Harrisdale Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 3, 2022.
At Harrisdale PS we are developing students with the skills to learn, live, and work in the 21st century. This includes strong foundations in literacy and numeracy, as well as the skills to inquire, problem-solve, and create using digital technologies to enhance their learning. We are seeking to create a pool of Deputy Principals, ideally with highly developed knowledge of current research and evidence-based practice, to lead staff in the contemporary pedagogy of explicit teaching, inquiry learning (Future-focussed learning) and ICT integration.
Harrisdale PS may appoint a Deputy Principal from the pool to meet the needs of the school at a particular time. Applicants with a strong Student Services background are encouraged to apply. Suitable applicants should have strong knowledge of the strategies, processes, and resourcing required to cater for the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities or learning difficulties, as well as those that are EAL/D, Aboriginal, or require academic extension.
As Deputy Principal, you will ideally be an excellent educator whilst being driven to excel, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead and engage with individuals at all levels. You should be able to collaborate very effectively with others to sustain a professional team culture whereby staff feel supported. You will ideally be motivated and self-driven, able to use your initiative, and work collaboratively or independently.
Working as an effective member of the Executive Team, you will provide educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school vision and values. You will lead and work collaboratively with staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality curriculum, effective quality teaching (including explicit teaching and inquiry learning), professional learning, leadership development, and positive promotion of Harrisdale PS within our school community and further.
Suitable applicants should be high performers, ideally with some successful leadership and management experience. You should exhibit the capability and commitment required to continue to develop and sustain conditions for whole school improvement, develop leadership capacity in others, and support the growth of instructional leadership across the school. Ideally, you will also have some coaching experience to foster professional growth in others, and cultivate successful outcomes-focussed teams that are reflective and use evidence and data to inform decision-making.
Harrisdale PS is a Teacher Development School (TDS) - Digital Technologies and STEM Mentor school. A Deputy who could assist with these initiatives, bringing their own strengths and ideas to the role, is highly desirable.
Harrisdale PS opened in 2016. Currently in its sixth year, it is the fastest growing and largest primary school in WA. It has a diverse community with a significant EAL/D community. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
