Advertised Vacancy Number: SS/SA696224
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2021
Halls Creek District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Follow the Dream Program Coordinator to join our friendly and supportive administration team.
The role of the Program Coordinator involves identifying students for participation in the program and then monitoring and supporting their progress. This involves working closely with classroom teachers and within classrooms to ensure student academic success and general wellbeing. The Program Coordinator is also responsible for encouraging students, school staff, volunteers from the community, and others to share ownership of the Program’s vision and goals.
Additionally, the Program Coordinator will work with students providing subject advice and career guidance as well as organising extra-curricular activities and selecting and supporting tutors in the enrichment centre. Other responsibilities of the Program Coordinator are to contribute to the development of the school plan through participative decision making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems.
The successful applicant will also undertake administrative duties related to the Follow the Dream program and have the ability to work effectively with key stakeholders including a number of ‘outreach’ schools, local steering committees, parents and school staff. As well, the successful applicant will possess an understanding of the program intent, requirements and an appreciation of issues regarding Aboriginal education, students and cultural perspectives.
The Follow the Dream program aims to support Indigenous students to excel academically, complete secondary school and achieve entrance to university. Although university entrance is the primary goal, the program also supports students to achieve other tertiary placements, such as vocational education and training (VET), an apprenticeship or traineeship, or the employment of their choice.
Follow the Dream is inspired by Graham (Polly) Farmer’s vision for all young Aboriginal people to have every opportunity to succeed in life, develop their talents and take their rightful place in Australian society. Follow the Dream provides enriched educational and experiential opportunities for male and female Aboriginal students. The program celebrates culture, strengthens a sense of belonging and connection to community and empowers students to pursue their aspirations.
Follow the Dream is delivered through a partnership between the Western Australian Department of Education and the Polly Farmer Foundation. The Polly Farmer Foundation represents the network Alumni, supporters and sponsors who enrich Follow the Dream. At Halls Creek DHS, we have developed both a culture of high expectations and a high care environment where success is supported and celebrated. We are striving to be a school of achievement through our consistent teaching practices, dynamic educational experiences, and active community engagement.
Halls Creek DHS is a school with a strong community focus. We are looking for a motivated educator who is willing to be involved in local events and committed to building relationships.
