Derby District High School (DHS) is seeking a qualified Teacher of Mathematics and Career and Vocational Education (CAVE) to join their team.

About the Role
As a Teacher of Mathematics and Careers, you should possess the capacity to provide a learning environment that is caring, engaging and differentiated to cater for a range of learning needs including the specific needs of students who are learning English as an additional language. The successful applicant will also have a good understanding of and ability to deliver the Western Australian Curriculum. An understanding of the Aboriginal and Cultural Standards Framework is also desirable. We are seeking a teacher who has strong classroom management and positive behaviour support skills to successfully engage students in their learning.
With an interest in working with young people, the successful applicant will have a positive attitude and willingness to work with like-minded people. You will foster a love of learning in your students whilst engaging in ongoing professional learning opportunities. This role requires the suitable applicant to be highly proficient in engaging and motivating students whilst supporting the school’s priorities and business plan.
To be successful in this role you will be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. In addition to educating and supporting the ongoing development of student capabilities, you would be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and work collaboratively in a team environment. Our School
Derby DHS is located in attractive and well maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of over 620 students it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal Communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park.
Derby DHS promotes the "Stronger Smarter” philosophy of high teacher, student and school expectations. The successful applicant will be expected to support and promote positive high expectations relationships with students, staff, parents and wider community of Derby and surrounding Aboriginal communities.
Derby is 220 km east of Broome and is 2463 km north of Perth and was the first town settled in the Kimberley. The town is well supported with a range of government infrastructures and a variety of shops. Derby is the ideal destination for a coast to outback gorge country adventure in one of the last true wilderness areas on Earth. It's the western gateway to the legendary Gibb River Road - Australia's unique four-wheel drive experience - and a short hop to the horizontal waterfalls and the ancient canyons and caves of Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge. Its location on the King Sound and near a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities – but not swimming!
School facilities include kindergarten buildings; purpose built pre-primary and year one early learning centre; library; canteen; performing arts centre; music room; three computer laboratories; science laboratory; home economics and design and technology centres; oval and large undercover assembly and activity areas. Classrooms are air conditioned and networked with access to a range of technologies including iPads, laptops, interactive whiteboards and touch screen TVs.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

TRAINING
