Kambalda West District High School (DHS) is seeking an experienced Teacher who is looking for a promotional pathway. This future leader will have a strong background in vocational and careers education within a district high school context. If required, an opportunity is available to fill the remaining 0.6FTE with a negotiated teaching role. As part of the middle leadership team, the VET Program Coordinator will primarily provide senior secondary students with alternate pathways leadership in the school by promoting and working with the School Business Plan and School Strategic Plan. Development and implementation of a whole school approach to careers and vocational pathways in the town of Kambalda will be an essential element to share ownership of the direction of the school.
The successful applicant would ideally be dynamic, organised and committed with a passion for improving outcomes for students across the school. Using your professional knowledge and understandings you will promote the use of the WA Curriculum, SCSA guidelines and DOE priorities. Working to build whole school processes the VET program coordinator will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and liaise with industry and the wider community. An understanding of TAFE and certificate course will be an advantage.
Our school has a strong pastoral care focus enhancing the delivery of curriculum through the provision of rich authentic classroom learning experiences. Student engagement and curriculum must be in line with trauma based strategies so all students can access learning.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
