About the role
As a teacher with the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) you will be a highly valued member of a team providing quality education to students whose physical or mental health presents difficulties in accessing their usual educational program. The co-teaching environment in any of our programs is diverse and dynamic on any given day, as you support individualised student needs within multi-age groups. As a culturally responsive and inclusive school one of your key priorities will include providing all students with opportunities to achieve success through education.
Teachers who work with students and schools as part of their SSEN:MMH role tell us the work improves their practice and makes them more attuned teachers. We will support you with additional professional learning to understand student needs across various teaching areas, and look for your commitment to professional development to further evolve your teaching knowledge, practice and engagement.
This pool will be used to fill permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies in a variety of worksites. across the Perth and Peel regions. Appointments from the pool can be made at any time for vacancies during the 2022 school year.
The ideal teacher
This role will suit dedicated and motivated teachers with outstanding classroom teaching skills and a range of experience. It will suit those staff interested in teaching across many subject areas and a range of levels. It’s a job that necessitates a wealth of curriculum knowledge as well as tact and diplomacy, effective interpersonal skills and empathy. Meeting the needs of all students requires staff to work collectively with others, being open to their opinions and perspectives to achieve positive student outcomes.

Our school
The School’s administrative centre is based at Perth Children’s Hospital with metropolitan programs in hospital and community settings across sites in the north and south metropolitan education regions. Staff are timetabled to programs across these SSEN:MMH sites to ensure we meet the needs of all students, including Bentley, Joondalup, Midland, Murdoch, Nedlands, Rockingham and Shenton.
SSEN:MMH are responsive to diverse needs within a holistic framework of family, students' enrolled schools (both government and non-government), other SSEN and Statewide Services teams, community support systems and the health community. Our teachers work with interdisciplinary health teams, as well as collaboratively with other teachers and support staff. These teams assist us meet the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students and serve as a link between Health and Education.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
