Are you a positive and talented teacher who strives to enhance student educational outcomes?
The School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) is seeking to establish a pool of energetic, motivated and aspirational Teachers of the Deaf for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2022.
The School provides educational support for children with a hearing loss and/or vision impairment from birth to completion of school. SSEN: S is based at the Statewide Services Centre in Padbury and supports children in both public and non-government schools throughout Western Australia.
SSEN: S operates the Deaf Education and Vision Education programs to support eligible children, their schools and families. SSEN: S employs teachers with specialist skills and other specialist staff such as educational audiologists, school psychologists, braille transcribers, Deaf education officers and educational interpreters.
SSEN: S supports young children from birth to completion of school at the SSEN: S Early Childhood Service (0-4 years) or in their local schools with Teacher of the Deaf support. Teachers of the Deaf deliver targeted learning programs based on the Expanded Core Curriculum including areas such as communication, audiology, assistive technology and self-advocacy. Additionally, Teachers of the Deaf provide consulting support to schools and agencies in the provision of appropriate classroom teaching and learning adjustments.
Suitable applicants will demonstrate a sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum and best classroom practices to cater for the needs of individual students with a sensory disability. Additionally, a sound knowledge of developing and implementing personalised learning plans, assessment tools and reporting to parents and schools in a timely manner is necessary. As our service encompasses children from birth to Year 13, we are seeking teachers with experience in working with young children and/or school age children and their families.
We are seeking applicants who are willing to undertake regular professional development and who are interested in expanding their professional knowledge. It is highly desirable that applicants for all Teacher of the Deaf positions hold a Master of Special Education – Majoring in Deaf/Hard of Hearing or similar, or are working towards this qualification. Suitable applicants will be required to complete an Auslan program either by distance education or an in-house program upon appointment to a position within SSEN: S.
SSEN: S staff benefit from working in a cohesive and collaborative team environment, sharing common goals and resources in supporting students, schools and parents across a state-wide service. SSEN: S provides opportunities to work state-wide with the provision of current and regular professional learning events, an induction and mentoring program for new and returning staff, and the opportunity to work in an environment of best practice which encourages innovative input of ideas from staff.
Appointments will be made to SSEN: S located at Statewide Specialist Services in Padbury. In addition, Teachers of the Deaf may also work from hubs in north and south metropolitan regions, including Mandurah.
The role may involve extensive state-wide travel with overnight stays including long distance driving, some of which may be in remote locations. Suitable applicants will be required to hold a current and valid ‘C' class drivers licence. Travel may involve the use of the employee’s own motor vehicle which must be registered, insured and in safe working order.
