Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a passionate Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) teacher to join our friendly team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting a collaborative approach to curriculum leadership and planning by providing tailored learning programs to suit the needs of all students in our school community and modelling exemplary teaching and learning strategies in their delivery of the WA Curriculum. Sound classroom management skills, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students and to practise a range of teaching strategies are highly regarded.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Karratha SHS teachers are encouraged to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, use an Instructional Model in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Karratha SHS has a population of approximately 1300 students and is situated on a state of the art campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
