The Office of the Director General is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed individual to the role of Principal Consultant.
The Principal Consultant will provide professional support and advice to the Manager, Office of the Director General for effective development of Department projects, programs and initiatives. This includes researching, preparing and reviewing briefing papers, speeches and confidential reports on behalf of the Director General to ensure the operations are effective, efficient and aligned with the Department’s direction.
This position represents an opportunity to work with the Director General and leadership team, and to gain a unique perspective on the entire scope of the Department’s operations. The successful applicant will have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to ‘join the dots’ between diverse business areas and deliver practical, timely and strategic advice.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level professional knowledge and experience in the context of the role of this position.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of correspondence, reports, Ministerials and briefing notes.
- Substantial skills and experience in managing a range of complex projects and issues.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical, research and investigation skills with the ability to identify issues and trends and provide innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed organisational skills with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment and under tight timeframes.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking senior-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
