The North and South Metropolitan Education Regions are seeking to establish a pool of highly motivated and experienced school psychologists for commencement to available full-time and part-time permanent positions up until the end of Semester One, 2022. This pool will be available for appointments to the North or South metro region and self-managing schools in both regions.

The North Metropolitan Education Region is one of eight regions in the Western Australian Department of Education. The Region comprises over 240 public schools providing kindergarten – Year 12 school-based education programs for over 100,400 students in the north-western and north-eastern suburbs of the Perth metropolitan area. There are 264 public schools located in the South Metropolitan Education Region, which encapsulates an area from the City of Fremantle, along the Swan River to the City of Belmont, extending to the eastern most point of the City of Armadale and south to the Shire of Waroona. It essentially covers the southern side of the Perth metropolitan area and is the largest education region by student enrolments. As a school psychologist with the Department of Education, this is your opportunity to provide proactive and responsive psychological services and evidence-based assessments and interventions in mental health and wellbeing, behaviour, learning and disability and incident management.
About appointments from this Pool:
- School psychologists appointed by the region will be based at a host school within the region and may service primary schools, senior high schools or education support schools anywhere in the region. School psychologists may provide service delivery to more than one school.
- School psychologists appointed by a self-managing school will be considered permanent to the school.
- School psychologists may hold more than one contract of employment, either with several self-managing schools and/or a combination of school and regional appointments.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (or equivalent); or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology;
or
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position)
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
