About the role
As part of our Staff Recruitment and Employment Services team, you will be responsible for leading a new recruitment initiative to support our Corporate Executive and Directors of Education with recruitment, selection and appointment processes for school principals and senior executives.
A team has been established to deliver a comprehensive recruitment service for the key appointments. This presents an exciting opportunity to use your recruitment knowledge to develop strategies, plans and frameworks to ensure the team is positioned to add value to these integral recruitment processes. As the Principal Consultant, you will lead the team which will include the development and integration of a new panel support function with existing processes. You will provide expert advice on recruitment procedures, best practice, and compliance, and be the driver for process improvement.
As the team leader, you will undertake direct responsibility for the recruitment processes of our most senior executive appointments, and ensure all senior processes are supported by the team. You will contribute to and develop strategies to support our recruitment services, and keep abreast of emerging trends in this field.
Your leadership and development skills will ensure that your team are upskilled across the executive recruitment functions, and supported to deliver operational objectives successfully. You will also be responsible for managing staff leave entitlements and staff performance in accordance with relevant policies.
The ideal candidate
The successful candidate will be an experienced public sector recruitment practitioner, highly organised, innovative with recruitment processes, enthusiastic about developing the executive recruitment function and leading a new team. As an exceptional communicator, you have the proven ability to build relationships at all levels, influence positive outcomes and deliver high levels of service. Your strong leadership and people management skills will see you lead by example and motivate your team to achieve success.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to six months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of recruitment policy, procedures and practices within the public sector legislative framework and a thorough understanding of the application of these within a large and complex organisation.
- Capacity in managing recruitment processes for high level executive positions.
- High-level written communication and presentation skills, including extensive experience in the preparation of briefings, reports, frameworks and policy.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to undertake high-level negotiations and consultations; present to large groups and build high-level relationships and cross-sectoral networks.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to complex problems while supporting the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Highly developed leadership, project management skills with the ability to coordinate and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes and in a customer-focussed manner.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
