Gingin District High School (DHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to fill the position of Teacher – Science.
The successful applicant would ideally be a teacher who can engage students and challenge them to achieve their personal best, be able to work effectively in a team and independently. As our Science teacher, you will ideally possess the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary Science curriculum using a positive, student-focused approach, and have proven success working with students across a range of ability levels.
The successful applicant will be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated. You will engage in ongoing reflection and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice to create an environment which is conducive to learning. The role requires you to actively participate in planning the curriculum and providing students with purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for individual student learning needs.
Gingin DHS is located approximately 85 kilometres north of Perth and caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Gingin DHS services a large geographical area including the localities of Lancelin, Guilderton, Muchea, Regan's Ford and parts of the Shire of Chittering. Our school aims to 'Create a positive, uplifting community where students succeed.' We do this through a whole school commitment to supporting individual students across their years of schooling.
We provide a comprehensive curriculum for all year levels. Literacy and numeracy are the major aspects of the learning in early childhood and primary classrooms. Secondary programs focus largely on broadening the development of skills across the curriculum including in specialised learning areas. The school's literacy plan and numeracy plan have led to high levels of achievement over the past three years, with Gingin DHS performing as well as or better than other schools across the state. Secondary students who have been at the school until Year 10 have achieved outstanding results in Year 11 and 12, with some achieving subject awards and school awards, and most going on to a successful university career or a quality trade traineeship.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
