The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN: BE) in the Greater Bunbury Engagement Centre - East Bunbury is seeking a highly dedicated and enthusiastic Gardener – Handyperson to join their team. You will work as part of a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school community.
The successful applicant will perform gardening duties, as well as grounds and facility maintenance to ensure a safe, clean and inviting school environment. They will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean and tidy condition for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management, and provide a suitable growing environment for plants. The successful applicant will also perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener - Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. Ideally, the successful applicant will have good communication and interpersonal skills and work well with others.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required to provide grounds and maintenance advice and to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and community. It is expected that you will have the capacity to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed, and build a calendar of scheduled tasks, without specific direction. You will also be expected to monitor and maintain the reticulation systems and arm and disarm security systems as and when required.
SSEN:BE provides educational support and services with schools for students with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a K-12 context. Support is available across the public school system. Intensive support to students and consultative support to schools is delivered through 13 engagement centres and the Midland Learning Academy. The services of the engagement centres and the Academy are coordinated through SSEN:BE, which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a State-wide model of support for schools, teachers and students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process.
