Menzies Community School is seeking a dynamic and positive School Officer to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work in collaboration with teachers, school support staff, and our administrative team. As a School Officer you will be responsible for completing administrative duties including word and data processing. You will also be responsible for reception duties and therefore a strong sense of customer service, with a high level of interpersonal communication skills in a team environment would be highly desirable.
As the successful applicant you will ideally have the ability in using computers and a range of application software packages in particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing and possess the skills and the ability to support the administration and management of financial and human resources utilising RM Finance and HRMIS. The successful applicant will need to build and maintain constructive relationships with staff, students, community members and contractors.
The town of Menzies is situated 130kms north of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 110kms south of Leonora. Serving a mining, pastoral and local Aboriginal community, Menzies is the home of Wangkatja people who maintain strong family links to the town and surrounding country. Menzies is also a popular tourist destination with nearby Lake Ballard attracting international visitors.
Menzies Community School caters for students from Years K - 12. Approximately 120 people live in Menzies and in recent times the school's student population has ranged between 15 - 40 students.
Strong community partnerships are a distinctive feature of Menzies Community School and the community plays an active role in supporting the school and in ensuring that students attend school when they are in the community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
