Kalumburu Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking a dynamic and positive School Officer to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant would have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work in collaboration with teachers, school support staff and our administrative team. As a School Officer you will be responsible for completing administrative duties including word and data processing. You will also be responsible for reception duties and therefore a strong sense of customer service, with a high level of interpersonal communication skills in a team environment would be highly desirable.
As the successful applicant you would have the ability in using computers and a range of application software packages in particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing and possess the skills and the ability to support the administration and management of financial and human resources utilising RM Finance and HRMIS. The successful applicant will need to build and maintain constructive relationships with staff, students, community members and contractors.
Kalumburu - meaning 'Path By The River or River Crossing' is the most northerly Aboriginal Community in Western Australia and is situated on the banks of the King Edward River beside a long, deep billabong at the upriver end of Malindjar Gorge. The nearest townships to Kalumburu are Kununurra (565km S.E.), Wyndham (560km S.E.) and Derby (650km. W) Access to the region is available by sea, air from Kununurra, Wyndham and Derby/Broome and by unsealed road depending on seasonal conditions.
The school is also focussing on increasing the level of community participation and involvement in the school. We are facilitating the teaching of traditional story, dance and art as well as promoting the use of the Kwini language. Our AIEO's are participating in the district Capacity Building Program to further strengthen their role as a bridge between the school and aboriginal culture.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing general office administrative support with ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
